The USB Promoter Group announced that the reversible USB Type-C connector is ready for mass production. They call this the greatest invention in the universe :)
The size of the reversible USB Type-C is the same as the existing Micro-USB connector used for smartphones.
The new USB connector will have 18 pins, which is two standard USB 3.1 SuperSpeed having 4 pins, plus 5 more, in this way allowing a 10Gbps connections. Also supports the new USB Power Delivery specs, that allows up to 100 watts to be carried over a USB cable, enough to power a laptop or most of the peripherals, including a monitor.
All it's left is for the USB Implementers Forum to make Type-C devices, cables and adapters.
