isoHunt is back!

Less than one month after isoHunt was shut down and its founder served with a $110 million fine, the BitTorrent site has triumphantly returned to the internet, resurrected by a web preservation group known only as ' ArchiveTeam .' The torrent index site - which provides users with links to illegally posted movies, music, video game, and software files – closed down earlier this month after more than a decade online. The announcement, quietly made in a court document filed October 17, also indicated that isoHunt’s Canadian founder, Gary Fung, would be forced to pay a $110 million fine to the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) for “inducing” copyright infringement. IsoHunt.to was officially re-launched on Tuesday. The site has the same layout and color scheme as the former incarnation of isoHunt. Perhaps most crucially, isoHunt.to also points users toward all kinds of media content which they would otherwise have to pay for. Approximately 75 percent of the los...

FBI Employees Download Pirated Movies and TV-Shows

BitTorrent is used by millions of people every day, even in places where you wouldn’t really expect. New data suggests that employees at the FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services Division are sharing movies and TV-shows with the rest of the world. Is the FBI gathering information on BitTorrent users, or could it be that the feds harbor in-house pirates? Online piracy is a serious crime according to the FBI. Over the past years the FBI has been involved in many piracy related cases. The high-profile Megaupload investigation for example, where a federal agent used an “undercover computer” to browse the file-hosting site. In this light it is quite a surprise that some employees at the FBI appear to be sharing copyrighted material out in the open, through BitTorrent. Based on public data from BitTorrent monitoring company ScanEye we found several BitTorrent “pirates” linked to IP-addresses that are registered to FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services Division. ...

UKNova to shut due to FACT attack

One of the world’s most strictly regulated and ethically proud torrent websites, UKNova,  has been forced to announce its imminent closure, after FACT – the UK arm of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) – serviced it with a cease and desist order. Despite full compliance from UKNova regarding the links in question, FACT claimed that any and all links on the site were infringing unless direct permission had been given by the content holder for them to appear. To put this into context, compared to the many torrent sites that have no sharing guidelines – the places UKNova visitors will now undoubtedly use instead – UKNova operated its torrent search and trackers with a strict code of guidelines. No content that was available on DVD, video, premium content channels or streaming services was allowed on the site, in any fashion. There was even a guideline that said up to two weeks before a DVD release date for a TV series or show, all torrents that allo...

Demonoid Starts Redirecting to Ads and Malware

It’s been nearly a week since Demonoid went down following a huge DDoS attack and still there is no sign that the site will return. If anything, the situation has worsened somewhat. The site’s main domain is now redirecting straight to an ad network serving up malware to unsuspecting visitors. Demonoid is one of the world’s largest and longest standing sites that not only indexes torrents, but also operates its own tracker. Although the site has a reasonable uptime record, there have been a few occasions where it has not only gone down, but has disappeared completely. We are currently in one of those periods. Last week the latest of Demonoid’s difficulties turned out to be caused by a massive DDoS attack which initially crippled the site and then took it completely offine. But while DDoS attacks usually stop after a point has been made or the attackers get bored, the Demonoid admin explained that he had more on his mind. “There might have been an attack from anothe...

Întîi, că unde-i lege e tocmeală. Preveder...
