Apple Patents Active Fall Protection

One of the main problems of Apple's iDevices is the screen cracking easily when dropped. Well, this will soon going to be changed, according to the latest patent granted by the US Patent and Trademark Office,  for a “Protective mechanism for an electronic device”. This mechanism should protect the sensitive hardware from Apple's devices when falling, meaning that the devices should turn in the air in such a way that will land on the back or sides. According to Apple's patent, this mechanism will take use of the already existing accelerometer, gyroscope, and GPS to complete it's task. While falling, these sensors will send data to a central processing unit. This unit will than send a command to a motor inside the mechanism, that will reposition the device in midair. The original system was developed by Nicholas V. King and Fletcher Rothkopf.

Apple sold 4 million iPhone 6 in pre-orders

Apple announced past days that many customers will have to wait until next month for their iPhone 6 orders, as a record of 4 million pre-orders were logged in the first day. That's like double the number for the iPhone 5 from two years ago. The deliveries will start on Friday and will continue through October. According to analysts estimations, based on pre-orders so far, the sales for first-weekend could be up to 10 million. "Assuming preorders are similar to the 40 percent of first weekend sales for the iPhone 5, this would imply iPhone 6/6Plus first weekend sales could be around 10 million," Wells Fargo Securities analysts wrote in a note. Raymond James analysts said they expect sales of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus to top 9 million in the first weekend. "Apple will be selling every iPhone it can make, at least through October. Because of this, the first weekend sales are typically more indicative of supply than demand," they said.

iPhone 5S & 5C manufacturing cost

IHS Electronics & Media revealed how much is Apple spending to manufacture the iPhone 5S and 5C. “The iPhone 5s features a 64-bit apps processor, low-power Double Data Rate 3 (LPDDR3) DRAM, and a novel fingerprint sensor—features that have never before been seen in a smartphone,” said Andrew Rassweiler, senior director, cost benchmarking services for IHS. “In addition, it is very interesting to see that Apple continues to collaborate closely with suppliers to develop unique radio frequency (RF) solutions that give Apple a competitive edge.” Although other smartphones have included 64-bit graphics processors, the 5s is the first model with a 64-bit applications processor, an innovation that has major implications for the iPhone and for Apple’s other product lines. The A7 used in the iPhone 5s costs $19—significantly higher than the A6 used in the original iPhone 5 and 5c, which currently carries a cost of $13. The low-end version of the iPhone 5s with 16 gig...

iPhone 5 vs. Samsung Galaxy S III - Drop Test

Apple is owed $1.05 billion from Samsung following patent verdict

Late last night local time, the nine man jury of the Apple vs Samsung legal case in California has ruled in favour of Apple and putting over a billion in their pocket in the process. Just days after the case was given to the jury , they have found that the vast majority of  Samsung devices concerned infringed upon the iPhone front fascia design patent. They also ruled that the trade dress (this is basically the design) of the iPhone line has been diluted by several Samsung products. To top it all of, it was ruled that Samsung willingly copied Apple’s patented designs and the resultant damages were tripled. There wasn’t much in favour of Samsung. Their own tablets were found to not rule upon the trade dress of the iPad and none of the Korean company’s patent were ruled in invalid, neither were any of Apple’s. Samsung will appeal the decision, but the verdict is unlikely to be changed. The company can only really dispute the amount of damages they owe and th...

Apple Hacked! Russian Alexei Borodin strikes again!

Alexei Borodin, the same hacker who came up with the recent in-app purchase exploit that allowed free transactions for iOS users has struck again with a new method that allows users of Mac apps to do the same. The ‘In-Appstore for OS X’ service uses a method that’s very similar to that used on iOS devices to spoof transactions made to Apple’s servers. We won’t rehash the method too much here, as we covered it in-depth with our previous article. The way that users implement it is slightly different on OS X than it is on iOS, but the root method is basically similar. After installing two local certificates, a user points their computer’s DNS settings at Borodin’s server and it pretends to be the Mac App Store, issuing verification of the purchase. It’s not incredibly simple, but it’s not all that hard either. This time there is a companion app called ‘Grim Receiper that must be run on the local machine to facilitate the process as well. It effectively bypass...

iPhone 5 - Siri hidden feature

The iPhone cracks itself if siri perceives it as stolen. Before you go why siri why, self destruction is activated only if you have enabled the iphone unlock error security feature on the concept iPhone 5. After 3 strikes, Siri radio quickly does an iPhone data transfer to your iTunes; and goes onto decimate all your information on the phone. You are notified on iTunes, where the iPhone data recovery is now available only to you, as it should be. If you cant have the iphone, NO one can! The question is not whether iPhone -- Will it blend? but iPhone -- Will it destruct?, if stolen. Go Siri! @InformationWeek

Mac Trojan Fallout: Apple Security Glory Days Gone?

Apple's reputation as an unattractive target for malware writers changed when the Flashback trojan hit more than 600,000 Macs. But Windows security still looks worse. Alan Paller, director of research for the SANS Institute, wrote in the group's information security newsletter Tuesday that it was time "to memorialize Apple's arrival as a prime target of cybercrime, following its recent ascent into a trusted platform for enterprise computing."  As Paller notes, Macs now have business cred, due in no small part to Apple hitting a home run with both the smartphone and tablet form factors. Market researchers said the company's success with the iPhone and the iPad has driven more demand than ever for Apple's laptops, not least by business users, even if it means "bringing your own device" (BYOD). Another selling point of Macs is that they've been almost completely unscathed by the last decade's boom in malware.  Interest...

Yahoo! Messeger virus
